1910 – Pietro De Giuli Botta, Sr.

Greatworth Estate's origin begins in Monza, just outside Milan, where Pietro Sr. builds a successful bulk wine business supplying the U.S. before Prohibition. His son, Pietro Jr., later expands the warehouse to handle wines from across Italy, marking the start of the family’s long commitment to quality and scale.

1910s – Tanker Trains Era

During WWI, the winery grows so large it operates its own “Pietro De Giuli Botta” tanker trains, with a rail line running directly into the facility — a symbol of industrial success and logistical innovation.

1960s – Transition & New Direction

As the Italian wine market evolves, the family exits production and shifts to real estate. Meanwhile, Pietro Jr.’s son, Mario De Giuli Botta, moves to England and begins importing wine, founding C. Guasti (London) & Co., keeping the family legacy alive with Barolo, Barbera, and other Piedmont wines. Mario starts importing Bersano into the UK during this time.

1970s – Birth of the Next Generation

In 1973, Simon De Giuli Botta is born in London — literally during a wine delivery. From childhood, he is immersed in Italian wine culture, tasting with winemakers, working production lines, and learning from long-standing family partners such as Pravis and Medici Ermete.

2010 – 8 Vini, Inc. is Founded

More than a century after Pietro Sr.’s vision, Simon founds 8 Vini, Inc. Wine Merchants in the U.S., focusing on premium Italian wine at exceptional value. With direct sourcing from Italy’s largest bottlers to top-rated estates, 8 Vini builds long-term partnerships and a strong national distribution through all 50 states and almost every major retail chain in the US.

2026 – The Fifth Generation

Christian De Giuli Botta represents the fifth generation of the family legacy, expanding into the UK market with a modern focus on brand building and event-driven distribution, positioning Greatworth Estates Ltd. as a new force in premium Italian wine for weddings, corporate events and modern on-trade channels
